Sustainable living in 2022

Sustainability has been one of our top criteria with construction or reconversion projects for a number of years now. Are you also dreaming of a more sustainable house or apartment in 2022 but don’t know where to start? Below we’ve listed five tips to help you reach your goal:

1) Proper insulation and ventilation

Naturally a well-insulated home consumes less energy. This is not only better for the environment but with gas and electricity prices on the rise your wallet benefits as well. Concentrate on roof, window and wall insulation as they are the leading sources of heat loss. Good ventilation is also essential to ensure a healthy and energy-efficient living environment. Have ventilation systems or grids installed to ensure a supply of fresh air without unnecessary heat loss.

2) Replace your old central heating boiler

Green alternatives for a classic central heating boiler? How about a condensing boiler, a heat pump or a solar boiler? They respectively derive their energy from the condensation of flue gases, from the soil, water or sky and from the heat of the sun. These systems don’t come cheap but you’ll easily recover the cost in the long run. Moreover, these renewable energy sources qualify for the overall renovation premium.

3) Install a green roof or a green facade

Have you spotted them yet, the houses and apartment buildings with a facade or roof filled with plants? They not only look impressive but green facades and roofs also contribute to the sustainability of your home. The many plants purify the air, create biodiversity and even have an insulating effect. With sufficient greenery on your roof both sound and heat are easily kept inside.

4) Reuse rainwater

A rainwater tank or infiltration system is compulsory if you’re building or renovating a house. The infiltration system helps the water seep into the soil, limiting the risk of drought. The rainwater from the tank can be used for such things as cleaning your house, watering plants or flushing the toilet. After all, why waste precious drinking water on such dirty jobs?

5) Carefully select your building materials

Building or renovation plans? Then think long and hard about which building materials to use. Naturally your main goal is to end up with a nice kitchen or bathroom but technical performance, environmental impact and health consequences are becoming more important with each passing year. A Parky floor is an environment-friendly choice. Every tree we use is harvested from sustainably managed forests and every board is fully recyclable. And that is just one of the many benefits of a Parky floor. So what are you waiting for?
